about the pattern:

The Gothic Lace scarf pattern was designed specifically for beginners learning lace! It has a simple, symmetrical lace pattern, and is easily adjusted for a narrower or wider scarf, a cowl, or for use with thinner yarns!

Once you have mastered the basics of lace, you can progress to knitting triangular lace shawls like Sunflower or Photosynthesis!
